Iranian
Artist Shows Drawings:
My
Signature Drawings
by Robert
Bassal
Robert
Bassal, an Iranian artist living in New York, studied sculpture,
drawing and painting in Iran before moving to Israel in 1972.
Continuing
his studies in art, he exhibited sculpture and video arts in
Tel-Aviv and Jerusalem. His interest in performance art led
him to establish an alternative theater workshop in Tel-Aviv
in 1985. Bassal's first solo exhibition since moving to the
US in 1989 will be held at Crosby Painting Studio in SoHo during
April.
On display
will be the artist's recent figure drawings. "Our signatures
show our personalities and our moods," Bassal says. "When I
draw the figure I want my responses and feelings to be directly
transmitted to the lines that I make on the paper. In that sense
all of my drawings are signatures. I take responsibility for
the lines; they are mine and only mine, so I have called this
show My Signature."
There will
be a reception for the artist on Sunday, April 2, from 5 - 7:30
pm.
Gallery
hours are Monday through Thursday and Saturday, 2 - 4:30 pm.
