Rialto Bridge

Canals and bridges go on and on in Venice. While living there several weeks I painted many bridges.

They combined beauty and mystery - what boat would slip out of the dark tunnel under it? Who would stroll over the bridge next? Who was behind that mask?

The sunlight fascinated me as it sparkled on water and stones one minute then disappeared as shadows fell casting everything in darkness.

With Vivald's violins playing often in the background Venice seems to be enchanted by canals and bridges.

Here the sparkling waves and shimmering fantasy architecture around Rialto Bridge are painted in a composition that invites us to get on a gondola and participate in the enchanted river life.

To paint this scene I had to perch on a dock where the water taxi stops and I was almost bumped into the river.
