Ahntholz' work has shown a consistency of development based on a solid grounding in technique that allows him to move freely from one subject to another.
Red apples on a purple ground are painted as voluptuously as is a young female nude. A portrait combines the knowledge of planes so essential to landscape painting with the profound psychological insight that is another of Ahntholz' trademarks.

Richard Ahntholz has taught painting extensively, during his career.

He taught at his own school in East Hampton and is now teaching at the National Academy of Design in New York city.

His teaching credits include Pratt Institute and Fashion Institute of Technology, located in New York city, as well.
