City Guy - Anchy
by Claire Clark
Great Smoking Man
by Peter Schwarzburg

For many years, the West Side had a reputation of being so middle-class, so placid and respectable, the rest of the city seemed hundreds of miles away. Many of its buildings are gigantic, block long apartment houses, solid, old, and decorated in Beaux Arts detail, and courtyards accessible only to their inhabitants.

On the other hand, the people who live on the East Side like the relative quiet of it so close to the innumerable delicatessens and antique shops. They often walk down to the dead-end streets facing out over the East River, where they can rest and refresh themselves by the edge of the river.
